The Neretva Delta sits at the southern end of Croatia's Dalmatian coast, where the Neretva River fans out into a wide, sheltered estuary before meeting the Adriatic near the town of Ploče. Komin is a small village on the delta's edge — quiet, agricultural, and for kiteboarders, a genuine discovery. The riding area is a large, open expanse of flat water over a shallow, sandy and silty bottom. The delta's natural geography does most of the heavy lifting: the water stays calm regardless of wind strength, there are no waves to contend with, and the shallowness rarely creates any real hazard in the main kite zone. If you're learning to kite or working on freestyle tricks, it's hard to ask for better water conditions. Wind here is delivered by the Maestral, the classic northwest thermal that builds across the Adriatic during the summer months. From June through September it runs consistently, typically in the 15 to 25 knot range. The side-onshore angle keeps water relaunches manageable and holds you within reach of the launch. The usable kite window runs from 145 to 305 degrees, covering most of the delta's open water. Getting to Komin means making your way toward Ploče and then into the delta proper. The village is small and easy to miss, so having GPS coordinates loaded before you set off is the practical move. Road signs in this part of the delta tend to be minimal. The launch itself is wide, flat, and forgiving. The shallow silty bottom lets you wade out comfortably to lay out your lines without tripping over anything. One hazard worth knowing about: weed. Aquatic vegetation builds up in the shallower sections during late summer, so scope your launch corridor before kitting up and pick a clean line. Kite schools operate out of Komin village through the season, making this a realistic destination if you're in the early stages of learning. Calm flat water and a steady, predictable wind are exactly what you want for lessons. If you're arriving with your own gear, check ahead for any local support, as Komin is a small place. The combination of flat water, consistent summer Maestral, and a forgiving shallow bottom puts Komin firmly in beginner-to-intermediate territory. Advanced riders chasing big air or powerful surf conditions will find it too mellow, but for anyone building fundamentals, dialling in freestyle moves, or just banking clean flat-water sessions, this spot delivers reliably across the season.
