About Nin · Ždrijac Beach

Nin is a medieval town on the Dalmatian coast, about 15 km north of Zadar. Ždrijac Beach sits on the western side of the town, facing over a wide, sheltered lagoon that has built a reputation as Croatia's premier kite spot for beginners and intermediates — somewhere the conditions are stacked almost unfairly in your favour. From Zadar, the drive north takes you along the coast to Nin. The beach is on the western edge of town, and the launch area is wide and sandy with plenty of room to rig and sort lines without getting in other people's way. What sets Ždrijac apart is the lagoon itself. The bottom is sandy and firm, and the water stays knee-deep for hundreds of metres offshore. It is warm through the summer. Falls are soft — you land and stand up fast. That combination of shallow, sandy, and forgiving is genuinely rare on a coastline that elsewhere serves up rocks and depth. The usable kite window runs from south (180°) all the way around through north (0°), covering both of the main wind patterns you will encounter here. In summer, the dominant wind is the Maestral: a reliable NW thermal that builds through the afternoon, typically in the 12–20 knot range. It is consistent and manageable — the kind of wind you can plan your day around. Arrive, rig while it builds, and be on the water when it fills in. It does not demand much from you, which is exactly what you want when you are working on basics or building confidence through transitions. Spring and autumn bring the Bora — a NE wind with a different character entirely. It comes in harder, typically in the 20–40 knot range, and can be abrupt and gusty. Intermediates who are comfortable in stronger, more variable conditions will find it engaging. Beginners should approach Bora days carefully: it can spike in strength quickly and does not always announce itself. Kite schools operate at the spot, keeping the launch organized and making instruction and rental gear available if you need them. After the session, the Beach Bar and Caffe Bar Demos are close to the water. Bellini is there for coffee. For food, Ana, Branimir, and Buffet Branimir are all nearby. If you are staying, Apartmani "Monika" Nin, Apartmani Oliva, Apartments Pupić, and Autocamp Peros are all within reach — Autocamp Peros being a solid option if you are camping or in a van. Nin's compact medieval old town is worth a wander between sessions.
