Pag / Zrće sits on the western shore of Pag Island in Zadar County — a pebbly bay that combines Croatia's most popular summer festival destination with a genuine kitesurf window. The NW Maestral is the engine here: a thermal sea breeze that builds through the afternoon and typically runs 15–25 knots across the warmer months. Getting to the beach means reaching Pag Island's southwestern coast. Parking fills quickly through peak season, so arriving earlier in the day gives you options — both for a spot close to the water and for catching the lighter, cleaner morning conditions before the Maestral peaks. The bay is predominantly pebbly with sandy sections between the rocks — those sandy patches are where you want to rig and launch. The rocky stretches are close enough that a sloppy exit matters, and shore break adds another variable to entry and exit. This is an intermediate-level spot; solid water-start skills and controlled kite handling are the baseline. Water conditions typically run choppy with shore break, especially as the Maestral builds through the afternoon. Earlier in the day conditions tend to be smoother. On a solid afternoon session the thermal delivers consistent power — good for riding downwind and carving, with enough chop to keep you working on the way back upwind. The mixed pebbly-and-rock bottom means every session ends with a controlled re-entry: no coasting to shore. Offseason, a strong Bora from the northeast can produce cross-shore conditions. The Bora's direction falls outside the primary usable kite window for this bay, so assess the angle carefully before you launch — cross-shore sessions here, with rocky sections and shore break in the mix, require clear thinking about where downwind puts you. The festival infrastructure carries over into solid on-beach facilities. For food, Croatia grill and a cluster of traditional konobas — Konoba Barcarola, Konoba Bile, Konoba Bodulo, Konoba DIDA, and Konoba Golija — are the sit-down options. Bar Pagos, Caffe bar Riva, Caffetteria, and Mali Caffe handle coffee and cold drinks. July and August are busy — noise, crowds, and activity on the beach are part of the deal. Season runs May through September, with the Maestral most reliable through the heart of summer. Intermediate kiters comfortable with shore break, a mixed bottom, and a lively beach will find solid sessions here. The same afternoon window that gives you the best wind also packs the beach — plan accordingly.
