About Dahab — Baby Bay

Baby Bay sits just south of Dahab town on the Gulf of Aqaba coast, tucked behind a reef that does the heavy lifting before any swell reaches the beach. The reef kills the chop at the entrance, leaving a stretch of water that is about as flat as it gets in Egypt — waist-deep over a sandy bottom with nothing lurking to catch you out. That combination is not an accident; it is why this bay has become the training ground of choice for every kite school operating out of Dahab. The approach from Dahab's main strip is straightforward — the bay is a short drive or ride south of the town centre. The launch area is sandy and open, and the water starts shallow and stays that way well out into the bay. The NNE wind arrives side-onshore across the usable arc (0°–180°), meaning drift pushes you toward shore rather than out to sea. For anyone still building confidence, that is a meaningful safety margin built into the geography itself. Harry Nass Dahab Windsurf, Kitesurf and Wingfoil Center 1, Jeep kitesurfing, Kite adventure dahab, and Kitesurfing Dahab all run lessons here, which means the bay can feel busy during peak months. The upside is more instructors on the water means more eyes around — practical if you are still learning self-rescue or water-starts. The season runs broadly from March through October. That window covers the most consistent wind, with conditions typically settling into a reliable daily pattern that lets you plan sessions rather than guess. Outside those months the wind becomes less dependable. Experienced riders do pass through, mostly using Baby Bay as a light-wind freestyle space or for coaching. If you are hunting waves or a technical challenge, this is not the spot — it is deliberately, unapologetically flat and sheltered. On lighter days, or if you are riding close to the reef where the bay walls can trim the breeze, going a size up on your kite is worth considering. After a session, the options are close. Beit Karim and Happy Land Cafe and Restaurant handle food well; King Chicken and Kung Fu Pasta are nearby alternatives. For accommodation, Dolphin Camp and Greek Camp Dahab put you within easy reach of the water the next morning. Baby Bay is not trying to impress anyone. It is one of the safest, most beginner-friendly kitesurf setups in the Red Sea region — flat water, a forgiving wind angle, multiple schools on site, and a long reliable season. That is a hard combination to find elsewhere.
