About Dahab — Kite Lagoon (Area 1)

Dahab sits on the Gulf of Aqaba in South Sinai — a laid-back dive and kite town that's become one of Egypt's main kitesurf destinations. Area 1 of the Kite Lagoon occupies the southern end of town, and it's where most of the learning happens: a sheltered stretch of incredibly shallow water, knees-to-hips deep for a long way out, with a layout specifically shaped around safe instruction. The wind here is NNE, arriving cross-offshore from the inland side. That angle is the whole point. The kite goes up over land, you walk into the shallows, and the protective launch layout keeps students naturally separated from the deeper water beyond the lagoon boundary. If you're taking lessons anywhere in Dahab, this is almost certainly your classroom. Approach is easy — the lagoon sits at the southern edge of Dahab's main waterfront strip, walkable from most of the town's accommodation. Once you're kitted up, the launch area is well-organised given the number of schools working here simultaneously. The water character is forgiving by design: flat, warm, and genuinely shallow throughout. A failed water start just means you're standing up and sorting your lines. Board starts are doable without drama, body dragging upwind is simple, and the clear water lets you see the bottom at every step. For beginners, that combination of depth and visibility takes a lot of anxiety out of the early sessions. For intermediates, it's a clean flat-water ride — no meaningful swell, low chop, and room to work on technique without fighting the water. Because the usable wind arc covers 0°–180°, Area 1 is at its best when the NNE is properly established. When the direction shifts outside that window, the cross-offshore angle changes and the launch loses its safety profile — worth checking before you rig. Area 1 isn't a spot for big air or high-speed blasting — the shallow water, the school culture, and the modest footprint set the pace. What it is, reliably, is a safe, warm, flat-water learning ground with solid infrastructure around it.
