About Ras Sudr — Soul Kitesurfing

Ras Sudr sits on the western shore of the Sinai Peninsula, facing the Gulf of Suez. The Soul Kitesurfing camp runs out of La Hacienda Hotel in the southern end of town — accommodation, rigging space, and launch are all in the same place, which removes the usual overhead of driving to a remote beach and sorting logistics on arrival. The water here is more tide-dependent than most spots. At low tide, shallow lagoons open up into glassy, flat panels — the kind of surface that genuinely rewards tricks and technique work, where the water is calm enough to practise everything cleanly. High tide shifts the character to something choppier and more energetic, with enough texture to send jumps properly. Both states are worth riding; knowing which you're stepping into changes your session plan. Wind runs predominantly from the northwest, side-onshore to the beach, at 16 to 25 knots when conditions are on. The usable kite window spans 180°–359°, covering southerly through westerly and into northerly, with NW being the productive quadrant. Side-onshore orientation is one of the better safety setups going: a late exit or gear problem pushes you toward shore rather than offshore. Combined with the flat low-tide lagoon, this makes Ras Sudr a reasonable choice for riders still developing — the spot's layout doesn't punish early mistakes as hard as a cross-offshore setup would. That said, it's not a one-note spot. The choppier high-tide state offers real jump potential for intermediate and advanced riders, and the flat-water lagoon at low tide is a genuine freestyle playground once the basics are locked in. Different skill levels can coexist here without much conflict. Sessions here tend to extend into the evening. Sunset over the Gulf of Suez has a particular quality — the light turns the flat water orange and gold — and the wind typically holds late enough to make it worth staying. The camp's reputation for sunset sessions is the kind of thing you hear from people who've been back more than once. The La Hacienda camp setup keeps things compact. Launch is from the beach directly in front of the hotel. The combination of flat lagoon conditions, side-onshore wind, and an established camp makes this one of the more welcoming spots in Egypt for newer riders, while still offering enough variety to keep experienced ones occupied across both tide states.
