La Palme sits along the Languedoc-Roussillon coast in the Aude, tucked behind one of the region's characteristic étangs — a shallow coastal lagoon pinched between the village and the Mediterranean. The village connects easily to the main coastal road through this part of the coast, and the approach to the water is short. The bottom is soft and shallow throughout, so an unplanned swim is usually low-consequence. Watch the margins though: shallow lagoons can get weedy toward the edges, and in lower water conditions the mud can catch you on a downwind drift. The usable kite window runs from roughly SW through to NE — a generous arc that takes in westerly and northerly winds. This broad window means the spot functions across a range of conditions. Cross-wind to cross-offshore setups are what you're typically working with; the lagoon geometry keeps the water manageable even when the wind is properly up.
