It typically builds through the morning and peaks in the afternoon, running roughly 12 to 20 knots on reliable summer days. The usable arc is broad — the lake accepts winds from southwest all the way through north to northeast — so there's flexibility, but the core sessions come when the southwesterly or westerly thermal fires up properly. The water is lake-flat. No chop, no current, no tidal windows to negotiate. That makes this spot genuinely accessible across skill levels: beginners can work on water starts and body dragging without fighting unpredictable sea conditions, while more experienced riders can focus on transitions and freestyle on a consistent, forgiving surface. At 480 metres you're properly in the Pyrenees, but the altitude stays comfortable through summer. Hazards are worth thinking about before you launch. Mountain thermals can build and drop faster than coastal sea breezes, so a lull mid-session is realistic. Keep an eye on the reservoir edges and any structures around the launch area — there's no rescue infrastructure here. There is no on-site school or rental operation, so come fully equipped; if you're still working on the basics, sort instruction elsewhere before you arrive. Season runs June through September. The best windows sit in the afternoon once the valley thermal has had time to establish. Mornings can be calm — patience usually pays off. Outside those months, conditions become unreliable. Facilities at the lake are minimal. This is a mountain reservoir, not a kitesurf resort. Fuel up and stock food in Foix before heading out; don't count on amenities on site. What you do get is a quiet, scenic spot with clean, flat riding and a small kite community that tends to be welcoming to visiting riders who arrive prepared.
