Penvins occupies the southern tip of the Rhuys peninsula in Morbihan, Brittany, where the land runs out and the bay opens SSW into the Atlantic. It's a tidal spot — and that tidal shift is the whole story here. At high tide, the beach holds a wide, sheltered flat-water lagoon. The water stays calm and the launch is easy — broad, sandy, and forgiving. This is the state that makes Penvins a genuine beginner-friendly spot, and why schools run sessions here through the summer months. If you're still nailing your water-starts or working on your transitions, this is a good place to put in hours without the chaos of a crowded surf beach. Low tide reverses the picture. The water pulls back to expose sandbanks, the character of the spot shifts, and you'll want to scout your launch and riding area before gearing up. Neither state is unmanageable for a competent rider, but understanding which tide you're riding on matters here more than at most spots. The wind arc runs from 105° to 285°, meaning southerly and south-westerly winds — the dominant summer direction on this stretch of coast — arrive side-onshore. That's a comfortable angle: if you go down, the wind pushes you toward the beach rather than out to sea. The bay faces SSW into the Atlantic, giving it a clean, unobstructed catch of those SW winds. Getting here means driving out along the Rhuys peninsula, the narrow arm of land that encloses the southern edge of the Gulf of Morbihan. The pointe itself is well-signed and the beach is accessible, with parking available at the tip. Factor the peninsula drive into your timing when you're trying to hit the right tide window. After a session, both Côté Plage and Le Furibard are close by — restaurants where you can debrief over food and something warm. The season runs May through September. That window tracks the reliable southerly wind period; outside it, conditions become less predictable and schools won't be running. If you're making a trip specifically to kite here, June through August gives you the best combination of wind, warmth, and access to local knowledge through the schools operating on the beach. Penvins is not a wave spot or somewhere to chase down complex technical conditions. It's a flat-water spot with a reliable wind angle, a tide-dependent character that rewards a bit of planning, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere in the summer months.
