About Korfos Bay (Mykonos)

Korfos Bay sits on the south-west coast of Mykonos, roughly two kilometres from Mykonos Town, and it functions as the island's main kitesurfing hub. The bay is well-sheltered from the open Aegean swell, yet it channels the seasonal Meltemi wind with surprising force—the surrounding hills compress and accelerate the northerly flow, meaning what arrives at the beach is typically stronger and more gusty than a raw forecast might suggest. During high season the wind runs between 15 and 30 knots, making this primarily a spot for experienced riders who can handle a broad power range without drama. Wind corridors at the eastern and western ends of the bay introduce additional variability, so conditions can shift quickly across the arc. The usable kite window runs roughly from west through north to east—the Meltemi itself comes predominantly from the north, onshore, which keeps the riding area open but demands solid upwind ability and an honest self-assessment of your skills. The bay splits naturally into two riding characters. The western side picks up small wind waves, which gives you something to play with if you're into wave riding or just want texture underfoot. Head to the eastern end and the water stays noticeably flatter—good for carving turns or working on tricks without the chop interfering. If you're unsure which side suits your riding, start east and work your way across once you've read how the session is going. Getting here from Mykonos Town is a short drive of roughly two kilometres. The bay is the focal point of kite activity on the island, so you'll likely find others rigging up—useful for reading conditions before you commit to launching. Watch what existing riders are doing before you set up: the hill-accelerated gusts can arrive without much warning during kite launch. When it comes to eating and staying, the bay area punches above its weight for a kite spot.
