Nea Moudania sits at the gateway to Halkidiki, where the main peninsula's western shoreline faces the Thermaic Gulf. The town is the first real stop after leaving Thessaloniki — about 60 km on a straightforward drive — which makes it a practical base for kite tourists working their way down the Halkidiki fingers or keeping one foot close to the city. The beach is sandy with a gentle slope into the water. The Thermaic Gulf acts as a natural buffer, keeping the water flat and manageable — there's no meaningful swell to contend with, which is a big part of what makes this spot work for riders still building confidence. The water character leans toward the forgiving end of the spectrum. Wind comes predominantly from the northwest and north during summer, driven by the regional Meltemi pattern. Between June and September you can expect side-onshore conditions that put the wind across your body as you launch, broadly usable across a wide arc. Speeds typically sit in the 12–18 knot range — enough to get on the water without demanding a heavy-weather quiver. The side-onshore angle keeps you tracking along the coast rather than drifting straight out into the gulf, which gives less experienced riders an extra margin of comfort. Getting here is uncomplicated. Thessaloniki airport and city centre sit roughly an hour away by car, so the spot works equally well as a day trip or as the anchor for a longer Halkidiki kite holiday. Parking is generally available close to the beach, though summer crowds mean earlier arrivals have the easier time of it. The launch itself asks nothing technical of you — sandy underfoot with a gentle slope to the water's edge, no rocks or awkward currents to navigate. Once you're in, the flat, sheltered water inside the gulf gives you room to work on water starts and technique without chop complicating things. The riding suits beginners and progressing intermediates well. More experienced riders may find the flat water less stimulating than spots further down the peninsula, but when you want a reliable, low-drama session the consistent summer wind and calm surface deliver. Post-session, the town has solid recovery options. Asterix Creperie and Coffee Island handle the coffee-and-snack crowd. For a proper sit-down meal there's Krokodilos, Mapiva, Marina, Today's, and the local favourite Γιώτης. Stones and Siesta are decent sundowner spots. Gyros covers the quick-fuel option when you'd rather eat than wait. It's a well-serviced tourist town — you won't be hunting for somewhere to eat at any point in the day.
