About Vourvourou (Halkidiki)

Vourvourou sits in a sheltered SE-facing bay carved between the Sithonia and Kassandra peninsulas of Halkidiki — one of northern Greece's more distinctive kite setups. The bay is framed by dense pine forest that runs right down to the water's edge, with multiple small islets dotting the channel. On a clear summer day the view is genuinely hard to beat, and the setting feels a long way from the busier resort strips further along the coast. The village is small and the waterfront is easy to find. The launch area sits at the water's edge in a compact coastal setting with direct beach access. Ermis Wind kite school operates on site — instruction is available without going far, which matters both if this is your first visit to the spot and if you want a local read on conditions before launching. Wind here comes courtesy of the Meltemi, the seasonal northerly system that sweeps through the Aegean from June to September. Funnelled between the two peninsulas, it arrives cross-onshore from the N/NW at this SE-facing bay, typically running in the 12–20 knot range — steady and consistent rather than violent, with the bay geometry smoothing out the worst of any gusts. The usable kite window spans NE to SW (45°–225°). Sheltered from western swell by the Kassandra peninsula, the water inside stays largely flat — well suited to beginners working on basics and intermediates developing upwind technique or trick riding without persistent chop making every landing a lottery. The bay's geography is the thing to respect. Multiple small inlets and islets are scattered across the riding area, which adds to the scenery but also puts real obstacles in play. Know where you're heading before you push downwind, stay aware of the bay's layout, and treat any unfamiliar-looking channel with caution. A briefing with Ermis Wind before your first session here is a genuine recommendation, not a formality. After a session the village has solid options. Psariogiannis Akti Beach Bar is the natural beach-side stop. For food, Mantala Greek Taverna, Gorgona Medusa, Paris Restaurant, and Garlic are reliable choices; pizza is covered by Gousto pizza and Pizza Ovelix. Gorgona (Pullman) and Έδρα work for a more relaxed afternoon. The window to kite runs June through September, with July and August typically the most reliable for consistent Meltemi wind. Outside that stretch the spot goes very quiet and wind becomes less dependable — worth factoring in if kiting is the reason for the trip.
