Pantai Loedi sits on the west coast of Rote Island in East Nusa Tenggara, about 4 kilometres north of Nemberala — one of Indonesia's better-known kite destinations. Most visiting riders stop at Nemberala and never make it up the coast. That's a missed opportunity. The beach faces WSW, which is the reason it works so well during the S–SW trade season. The wind arc runs from 165° to 315°, covering southerlies through to northwesterlies. When Nemberala's angle turns awkward, Loedi often picks up a cleaner cross-shore flow — which is why riders who know the area treat the two spots as a rotation rather than alternatives. The trade season runs May to October, with winds typically sitting between 15 and 25 knots. Conditions are cross-shore here, which gives you a reasonable safety margin drifting downwind along the beach rather than straight out to sea. The bottom is sandy and the entry is shallow, so getting out isn't a fight — you can wade and waterstart from a forgiving depth rather than battling shore break. Once past the shallows, the open water delivers a solid cross-chop that suits freeriding, jumps, and freestyle sessions equally well. Getting to Rote Island takes some planning. The island is reached by ferry or regional flight from elsewhere in East Nusa Tenggara, and from the island's main centre expect an hour or more to reach the Nemberala coast, with Loedi a short distance further north. A motorbike or 4WD gives you the most flexibility on local roads. None of this is difficult, but it's the kind of journey that self-selects for riders who know what they're looking for — you won't end up here by accident. On site, Loedi Bungalow provides kite storage and instruction, which matters when the nearest gear shop is several islands away. It's a practical setup rather than a full kite resort, but it gives you a legitimate base of operations for working the spot properly across a multi-day stay. Skill-wise, intermediates and up will be comfortable here. The shallow entry softens the learning curve, and cross-shore wind angles are generally more forgiving than side-off or onshore. That said, this is a remote location with limited rescue infrastructure, so solid self-rescue capability and riding with a buddy are sensible baseline requirements — not optional extras. Loedi rewards planning. Pair it with Nemberala in a single trip and you cover different wind scenarios without changing your base more than once. If the trade winds are running, it's one of the more reliably ridable stretches of coastline in the Indonesian archipelago.
