Capalbio Chiarone sits at the natural borderline where Tuscany hands over to Lazio — a long, low-lying strip of sandy beach running along the Tyrrhenian coast, with the Maremma hinterland at your back and open water ahead. The municipality is Capalbio, the beach is Chiarone, and together they deliver one of Tuscany's quieter kite spots: consistently less crowded than spots further north on the Tuscan coast, with a broad sandy launch that gives you real room to rig without the usual elbow-jostling. Getting here typically means coming in off the old Aurelia coast road with beach access tracks leading down to the water. Parking near the beach access points is generally uncomplicated. The launch area is flat sand, wide enough to give you space, and the relative lack of crowds works in your favour from the moment you lay out the kite. The shore faces west-southwest, and the usable wind window runs from south through to northwest — two distinct patterns drive sessions here. The Mistral tracking in from the northwest is the main event: it builds through the day, tends to be consistent, and gives a side-onshore angle that makes launch and water reentry straightforward. The western thermal builds as the land heats up through the afternoon, coming in from a similar direction. Neither wind is pure side-shore, so there is always an onshore component to account for — useful for getting back to the beach, something to stay aware of if you are drifting downwind. Water character is flat to choppy. This is not a wave spot; the fetch is too open for meaningful swell, but when the Mistral is ripping, chop builds to something that rewards solid edge control. On lighter thermal days the surface is significantly calmer. Intermediates will find most conditions here manageable; improving riders can make the most of lighter thermal days while stronger Mistral sessions suit those already comfortable with chop. The season runs April through October. Thermals open up as spring warms the land; summer brings reliable afternoon wind alongside hot beach conditions. By October riding is still possible but thermals become less dependable. Facilities in the area are reasonably well covered. For accommodation there is Camping Costa D'Argento for those travelling with gear, Capalbio Resort - Hotel, Restaurant and Village and Hotel Il Cipresso Capalbio for more comfort, and Agriturismo 8e28 Capalbio for a rural stay in the Maremma. Food and drink nearby includes Carmen Bay, Carmen Bay sas, Capanna del Circolo Sant'Irma, Autogrill, Cafè del Mar, and Caffè Station.
