About Foci del Tagliamento

Foci del Tagliamento sits at the mouth of the Tagliamento River where it meets the Adriatic — right on the edge where Veneto gives way to Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The setting is raw and coastal: a wide sandy beach backed by scrubland, looking east over open water. Outside the summer beach season, this stretch of coast turns into a proper kite window, and from October through May the place belongs to the riders. The beach faces east, so when the Bora arrives from the northeast it wraps around to give a side-onshore angle — which is what makes this spot work. The Bora is a cold, clean air mass that can fill in hard and fast; conditions can shift from flat to powered up quickly, so keep an eye on the build. Shore break tends to be manageable but the real thing to respect is the river mouth: tidal current runs at the northern end where the Tagliamento meets the sea, and it moves. Launch away from that zone and stay aware of drift if you end up in the water. Intermediates are the core audience. The Bora generates a short, punchy chop that keeps things interesting without going massive — good ground for practising waves and jumps rather than flat-water freestyle. The occasional Scirocco from the east brings a different character: more swell, softer conditions, warmer air. But it is the Bora that defines this spot's personality. Getting here means working your way to the Adriatic coast in the vicinity of Lignano Sabbiadoro. Beach access is straightforward once you are on the right road, and there is space to rig on the sand. Stay clear of the river mouth when you set up — both for the current and because that zone can get congested when conditions draw a crowd. Aloha watersports center (da Andrea) is your local resource for lessons and gear advice from someone who knows this beach well. For food and coffee between sessions, Bagno 3, Bagno 5, Bagno 6, and Bagno 7 have you covered. Al Cason, Ausonia Beach, and Alla Vecchia Finanza are solid sit-down options, and Bar Friul is close for a quick drink.
