About Porto Pino

Porto Pino is a white-sand dune bay in the municipality of Sant'Anna Arresi, tucked into the southwest corner of Sardinia. The beach wraps around a shallow turquoise lagoon, backed by pine-covered dunes that define both its character and its wind personality. It's a genuinely beautiful stretch of coast that also happens to kite well — when conditions align. The approach runs through southwestern Sardinia's sun-baked scrubland and coastal pine corridors before the road drops you onto the bay. The launch area sits on the wide sandy shore, with the lagoon opening up directly in front of you. The shore faces roughly southwest, around 225°, and the usable wind window runs 145° to 305° — southeast through west to northwest all fall within the arc. Two wind systems drive most of the rideable days here. The Mistral pushes in from the northwest, often with strength; the Scirocco arrives from the southeast. Both sit comfortably inside the arc. Together they give Porto Pino a decent tally of workable days through the season, though you'll want to watch the forecast carefully rather than assume. The water is the main draw. The lagoon is shallow and turquoise with a sandy bottom — forgiving underfoot, easy to walk in, and well-suited for freestyle riding. Unhooked tricks and kite loops on flat water with a sandy bailout below is a solid proposition. When the Mistral builds and fetch increases, more advanced riders will find wave conditions developing toward the outer section of the bay. The dunes are the complication. The surrounding topography creates turbulence, and the wind here can be noticeably gusty and inconsistent — particularly close to the beach and dune line during launch and landing. This is not a relaxed drift-and-forget session. Arrive, read the gusts, give yourself space, and stay alert on the bar. Intermediate riders can handle it but need to account for the variability. Facilities around the bay are reasonable for a remote Sardinian beach. For a full sit-down meal after your session, Da Vinicio, L'Angelo, and Lavori in corso are the restaurant options. Fox bar, Nazca, and Pepe Nero cover the café and quick-drink end of things — useful for a pre-session coffee or a cold something after you've de-rigged. Porto Pino rewards preparation. Come with the right wind direction confirmed, rig down from what you'd normally use to account for gusts off the dunes, and you'll find one of Sardinia's more photogenic freestyle sessions waiting for you.
