Torre Grande sits on the western coast of Sardinia, tucked into the broad, shallow bay just north of Oristano's small port. The beach is wide and sandy, the shore faces directly west, and the whole setup is unhurried — this is not a dramatic clifftop launch, it's a flat stretch of sand with room to rig without chaos. Getting there is straightforward from Oristano, a short drive to the east. Parking is generally available near the waterfront, and the open beach gives you plenty of space to lay out lines and sort your gear without crowding other riders. The usable wind window runs from 200° to 340°, so anything from southwesterly through to north-northwest puts you in play. In summer the NW thermal typically builds from late morning, settling in at around 20–25 knots through the afternoon. It's a thermal, which means early mornings are usually flat and quiet — don't expect pressure at 8am. Once it's on, though, it tends to hold consistently enough to plan a proper session around. Water character here is flat to choppy. The bay is sheltered enough that you're rarely dealing with serious swell, which is the key difference from Capo Mannu, the more exposed break just up the coast. That makes Torre Grande a solid choice when you want to work on flat-water freestyle moves without fighting waves, or when you're still building confidence and want a more forgiving environment. Beginners tend to do well here — the predictable thermal pattern and calmer water keep the variables manageable. Kite schools operate in the area, so if you're travelling with someone who needs instruction, or you want a local briefing on current conditions and launch etiquette, there are options nearby without having to go far. For food and a sit-down after your session, Sa Pedrera restaurant is the listed facility in the area. A few things to stay sharp on: the port is close, so keep an eye on boat traffic and respect any exclusion areas around the harbour entrance. As with any thermal, the wind can gust as it builds, so the first minutes of your session are worth treating conservatively — launch cautiously, ride downwind to clear the beach, and feel out what the conditions are doing before you start sending it. The bay's sheltered character means conditions are generally forgiving, but that's not the same as saying they're always flat.
