Punta Abreojos sits on the mid-peninsula Pacific coast of Baja California Sur — a long, desolate sandspit reaching into open ocean, with a protected lagoon forming behind it. Getting here is the first challenge: this is a genuinely remote corner of Baja, and the approach requires a capable vehicle, time, and real self-sufficiency. There are no services at or near the spot, so plan your fuel, food, water, and gear supplies carefully before you leave the main road. The logistics are demanding, but they also explain why you'll likely have the water to yourself once you arrive. The spot itself is built around that long sandy point. You have room to rig and lay out lines with space to spare, and the sandspit's geometry creates a natural choice: the ocean-facing side delivers open Pacific exposure, while the leeward lagoon offers a flatter, more sheltered alternative when conditions on the ocean side are running heavier. For a rider who wants both options on the same day, that's a genuinely versatile setup. Wind runs from September through April, prevailing from the north to northwest and blowing side-onshore across the point, typically in the 15 to 25-knot range. The usable kite window spans 180 to 359 degrees — southerly through northerly directions. N/NW days during the core season are what most riders come for: when the wind locks in from that direction, the lagoon can flatten out while the ocean side stays lively with Pacific swell. That combination of side-onshore flow, flat water option, and open ocean access is the signature of a well-set-up kite spot. The setting is spectacular and genuinely desolate — open Pacific coastline, very little human infrastructure, and the kind of silence you rarely find at a kite beach. Crowd density here is about as low as it gets. That remoteness is also the primary constraint: there are no facilities at the spot whatsoever. No rental shops, no food, no rescue services, no one to help if something goes wrong. Self-rescue ability and solid on-the-water repair skills are non-negotiable. Skill-wise, Abreojos is a spot for experienced riders. You need to be comfortable in open-ocean conditions, capable of handling your own gear issues independently, and able to make sound safety calls without assistance nearby. The wind can be consistent during the core season, but Pacific swell and gusty days can complicate things — intermediates will find this spot stretches them, and beginners shouldn't attempt it. For the capable rider who times the conditions right, the payoff is significant: consistent side-onshore wind, a choice of flat or open water, and virtually nobody else around.
