About Dakhla Lagoon PK25

Dakhla Lagoon PK25 sits roughly 25 kilometres north of Dakhla city on the Atlantic coast of southern Morocco, in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region. The "PK" stands for Point Kilomètre — a local convention for marking distance along the lagoon peninsula road — and PK25 has become one of the most visited kite spots on the planet for one simple reason: the wind almost never stops. From Dakhla city, the approach takes you along a narrow peninsula, past dunes and desert scrub, with the lagoon opening up on your right as you head north. Most riders get there by rented car, shared taxi, or transfer organised through their accommodation. The drive is straightforward, and the spot announces itself clearly once you reach the beach. The launch area is lagoon-side — a sandy, gradually sloping shore with no meaningful shore break. The water is shallow and stays that way for a considerable distance out, making the setup and walk-in process calm and manageable. You're not fighting surge or timing sets; you wade in, get your kite trimmed, and go. The wind is a northeast trade wind, and Dakhla sits in one of the most consistent wind corridors in the world. With around 326 windy days per year, the question is rarely whether the wind will blow — it's what you want to do with it. The angle across the lagoon runs side-shore to side-onshore from the northeast, which keeps riding comfortable and gives you reasonable options if you need to work back toward shore. Conditions inside the lagoon are defined by flat, calm water — ideal for freestyle, foiling, and learning. The surface stays largely unmarked by swell, which means you can put full attention into kite control and technique without a wave face interrupting every run. Experienced riders chasing more dynamic water can explore the ocean-facing side of the peninsula, but the lagoon interior is where the flat-water discipline gets done. The infrastructure at PK25 has grown up entirely around kiting. On and around the beach you'll find four schools — Dakhla Kitesurf Ocean Adventure Le Lagon, Dakhla Kitesurf World, Dakhla Ventura | Kitesurf & Wingfoil Center, and Desert Sands Dakhla Lagoon View & Kitesurf Spot — covering lessons, rental, and storage. Accommodation along the lagoon road ranges from the desert-camp feel of Dakhla Attitude, Dakhla Camp, and Dunes de Dakhla to the more structured comfort of Dakhla PK25 Hotel and Dakhla Club Hotel & Spa. Dakhla Spirit Lagoon Camp is on hand for food when you're off the water. The Saharan environment demands respect. UV at this latitude is intense, shade on the beach is scarce, and the wind carries fine sand that gets into everything. Gear left unprotected collects grit fast. Stay hydrated, cover up between sessions, and keep equipment bagged when it's not in use.
