About Plage Blanche

Plage Blanche — literally "White Beach" — is one of Morocco's most remote and unspoiled stretches of Atlantic coastline. Running roughly 70 kilometres south of Guelmim in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, this wild, open beach sits where a vast coastal desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. The scale is striking: an enormous arc of sand with almost nothing but ocean on one side and empty landscape on the other. Getting here demands commitment. You need a 4WD vehicle to reach the beach from Guelmim — the tracks are rough and the surrounding terrain is unforgiving if you're underprepared. Bring water, fuel, and a spare tyre. There are no facilities at the beach itself — no shop, no rental, no rescue service — so arrive fully self-sufficient. The payoff for that effort is an essentially unlimited launch zone with the Atlantic coast almost entirely to yourself. The beach faces west, and the prevailing force here is the NE Atlantic trade wind — the passaat — which arrives side-shore on this west-facing coastline, creating long, rideable angles along the beach. The usable kite window runs from roughly south-southeast through north-northwest (175°–355°), capturing the side-shore angle that makes the spot work. Expect medium Atlantic swell rather than sheltered chop; this is open ocean exposure and the water shows it. A year-round wetsuit is non-negotiable. The Atlantic along this coast runs cool in every season — suit up accordingly, and go thicker in the cooler months. Plage Blanche is an intermediate-to-expert spot. The combination of open swell, consistent trade wind, and genuine remoteness means you need solid self-rescue skills and an honest read of your own limits before you launch. There is no rapid assistance available if things go wrong — plan for it. For a competent rider who can handle medium waves and surf conditions, though, this place can deliver exceptional sessions with almost no one else around. The 70-kilometre beach length gives you enormous room to choose your launch point and spread out without worrying about other users. Shore break is the main thing to manage: Atlantic swell can land hard at the waterline, so time your launches and landings carefully between sets. Downwinders and wave riding are the natural expression here — directional boards or strapless setups suit the water character, though a twintip handles the flatter patches between breaks. There are no facilities at the beach. Everything — food, water, fuel, accommodation — comes from Guelmim before you head out. Treat it as a backcountry mission and it will reward you accordingly.
