About Tamri

Tamri sits at the point where Morocco's Atlantic coastline pivots — the cape turns from northwest-facing to southwest here, right where the river mouth meets the sea about 40 kilometres north of Agadir. That geographical quirk is the reason the spot exists at all. As the coast turns, it creates a more consistent side-onshore angle than you find on much of the Moroccan Atlantic coast. The river carves out a natural flatwater zone inside the break, making this one of the few setups in the region where a beginner can work on water starts while an intermediate rider hunts waves a few hundred metres away on the same beach. The approach to Tamri is sandy and you don't need a specialist vehicle to get there. A camping area nearby means you can base yourself at the spot and wait for conditions to come together — and patience is genuinely part of Tamri's deal. This is not a high-frequency kite destination. Expect roughly 15 days a year at or above 12 knots, which is a modest count by Moroccan standards. What Tamri trades in frequency it offers in consistency: when the wind does arrive, it comes as a reliable side-onshore flow from the NE or NW. The usable kite arc runs from around 145° through to 325° — a wide window that keeps the launch manageable and angles riders across the beach rather than dead downwind or straight out to sea. The river mouth is where most sessions begin. The sandy beach gives you room to rig and a forgiving surface underfoot. Once in the water, you pick your battlefield: the flatwater inside the river's influence for a controlled session closer to shore, or the beach break further out where Atlantic swell rolls in over a sandy bottom. There is no reef to worry about, which makes the wave zone more accessible than many Atlantic setups. Wind direction and the river's character both shift with the season, so arrive with flexible expectations. The side-onshore component introduces a lateral current that builds through a session — worth tracking your position regularly, particularly toward the end of your time in the water. Facilities at the spot itself are minimal. For accommodation, supplies, or kite repairs, Agadir is your nearest proper base, 40 kilometres to the south. Tamri rewards the kind of rider who can sit back, watch the horizon, and trust that the right day will come. When everything aligns — wind filling the arc, a swell running, the river mouth settling into its flatwater mood — it delivers a session that can work for multiple skill levels at the same time. On a flat day, there is not much else going on out there. That is the trade-off, and it is worth knowing before you make the trip.
