About Tafedna

Tafedna sits roughly 20 km south of Imsouane on Morocco's Atlantic coast, a tiny W-facing cove carved into the rugged Marrakesh-Safi coastline. Getting here is half the adventure — the final stretch runs along a piste rather than tarmac, and a 4×4 is strongly recommended, especially in winter when the track can become rough. Factor that into your planning before you load up the car. The bay is compact and sheltered, and that geometry shapes everything about what riding here feels like. Rocky edges line most of the shoreline; the only viable place to rig, launch, and land is a sandy channel within the cove. Before you unpack anything, walk the beach: identify the channel, mark where the rocks begin on each side, and mentally lock in your launch and landing corridor. There's no second option if you end up drifting the wrong way. From roughly March through September, the Alizé — the northeast trade wind — delivers side-onshore conditions across this W-facing bay. The usable wind arc runs from 185° through to 5°, which gives the cove reasonable exposure without fully opening it to the full force of open-ocean swell that punishes more exposed stretches of Morocco's Atlantic coast. That sheltered character keeps the water calmer and more forgiving than nearby spots, though conditions will naturally vary day to day. On the water, the combination of a compact bay and a seasonally reliable trade wind can produce enjoyable, focused sessions. The sheltered geometry reduces heavy ocean fetch, but rocky cove walls mean spatial awareness is non-negotiable — downwind drift toward the edges is the thing you're managing constantly. It's not a beginner spot. Facilities are minimal by any measure: a basic café and nothing else. Come self-sufficient. Bring water, food, a repair kit, a pump you trust, and a charged phone. There is no gear rental, no first aid station, no rescue service. If something goes wrong out here, you're a long way from help, so conservative decision-making matters more than it would at a busier spot. The riders who get the most from Tafedna are those seeking exactly what it delivers: a quiet bay, a reliable seasonal wind, and a stretch of Atlantic coast entirely free of the kitesurf-school crowd. If you need infrastructure, head north to Imsouane. If you want to be the only kite in the air on a solid Alizé afternoon, the piste drive is worth every bump.
