About Alagadi (North Cyprus)

Alagadi sits on the north-facing Kyrenia coastline of North Cyprus, a broad sandy bay that doubles as a protected loggerhead turtle nesting site and one of the quieter kite spots on the island. Low scrub backs the beach rather than a hotel strip, the car park is informal, and on most weekdays you'll share the bay with a handful of people at most. If you've been riding busier Mediterranean spots, the pace here feels noticeably different. Getting in from Kyrenia (Girne) is straightforward — a short drive east along the coastal road, with the beach signposted. Parking is open and usually uncomplicated. The sand is fine and reasonably wide, giving you enough room to rig and lay out lines without too much threading around. Launch is directly off the beach into the bay. The wind is a NW-to-N Meltemi variant running side-onshore across the open Kyrenia coast. The usable kite window spans 270° through north to 90°, so anything from west-northwest to east-northeast keeps you in play. On a clean Meltemi day you're looking at 14–22 knots — consistent enough to ride properly once it's established. It typically builds through late morning and eases toward evening. The season runs May through October, with July and August delivering the most reliable wind. The bay averages around nine genuinely windy days per month across the season. May, June and September are worth targeting if you want decent conditions with lighter crowds; October can be variable. The water is shallow and sandy — straightforward underfoot and forgiving when things go wrong. The side-onshore angle gives you a reasonable safety margin toward shore, but the bay isn't huge, so keep track of how far downwind you've moved. Swimmers and paddlers do appear, especially in summer, so stay alert in the shallower sections near the shoreline. One rule carries weight here: Alagadi is a designated turtle nesting beach. From April through September, nighttime access is restricted to protect nesting loggerheads. For kiters that primarily means sticking to daylight sessions during nesting months and giving any roped-off nest markers a wide berth on the beach. Treat this seriously — it's a protected site, not a suggestion. For staying and eating, Camping on Alagadi beach puts you directly at the spot.
