Bangui Beach sits on the Windmill Coast of Ilocos Norte in the far north of Luzon — a stretch of shoreline backed by rows of wind turbines that have become one of the Philippines' most recognisable landmarks, and a reliable sign that the wind is working. The shore faces northwest, directly into the Amihan trade wind that dominates this coastline from November through April. During the Amihan season, the wind typically blows N/NW at 20–35 knots — consistent, powerful, and the reason Bangui is widely regarded as the best location for advanced wave kiting in the Philippines. The beach is a mix of pebble and coarse sand, producing a punchy shore break when the swell is running. Toward the river mouth, tidal influence creates pockets of flatter water — useful for rigging, an initial warm-up, or a bail-out zone if the main break gets demanding. Launching rewards riders who are comfortable with a beach break entry. The NW exposure means the shore break can build quickly on a strong Amihan day, and the pebble-sand surface requires a deliberate kite-up and a clean walk into the water. Get the timing right and you're through efficiently; hesitate and it can get messy. A beach helper for both launch and landing is strongly recommended — this is not a self-landing spot on a powered day. Once outside, wave riding is the main event. With NW swell stacking up and the Amihan running at 20–35 knots, Bangui offers the kind of powered, open-ocean wave sessions that serious wave riders travel for. The sets can be larger than they look from shore, and the riding demands commitment. On lighter Amihan days when the swell drops, the river-mouth section offers calmer, flatter water for those who prefer it. The windmill turbines behind the beach are more than scenery — use them as position markers to track where you are along the coast during your session. For food, Bangui Food Place is right next to the beach (~163m), and Miguel Luis (Pansiteria) is a short walk away (~282m). For accommodation, Kai's Haven is the closest option at roughly 3.2 km. Larger resorts — Apo Idon Beach Hotel, Evangeline Beach Resort, Casa Victoria, and Jun & Carol Beach Resort — are around 7 km along the coast. Bangui Windmeal Restaurant is a solid dinner option at about 3.3 km. Bangui is a committed trip that pays off for the right rider: advanced, comfortable in open-ocean beach breaks, and arriving during the November–April Amihan season.
