About Looc · Tablas Island

Tablas Island is the largest in Romblon province, a compact archipelago positioned in the Sibuyan Sea between Luzon and the Visayas. Looc municipality occupies the western edge of the island, and the beach here faces almost due west — around 270° — opening it directly to the Habagat, the Philippine southwest monsoon that rolls through from June to October. Getting here takes some doing. Most routes begin with a ferry from Batangas on Luzon, landing at Odiongan, the main port on Tablas. From there, jeepney or tricycle connections reach the western coast, though schedules are informal and the roads are provincial. Budget time, not just hours — this is Romblon, not Boracay. The launch itself is sandy and the bay is calm and protected. That combination is genuinely useful: no shore dump to wrestle through on the way in, and a relatively flat water surface once you're riding. The westerly beach orientation means Habagat winds arrive side-onshore across much of the usable window, with the kite arc running 180° to 359° — south through west to north. Wind during the season typically sits in the 12–22 knot range, a bracket that works well for intermediates on mid-sized kites without demanding expert-level handling. This is not a wave spot. The protected bay character keeps things mellow on the water, which makes it practical for progressing riders or for sessions where you want to focus on technique rather than conditions management. More advanced riders who need serious chop or swell will need to look elsewhere. Facilities at Looc itself are not documented — assume none specific to kitesurfing. Odiongan is the place to sort provisions, minor repairs, or accommodation logistics before heading to the beach. Arrive self-sufficient with your own repair kit, sun protection, and food and water for the day. Seasonality is clear-cut. The Habagat window — June through October — is when this spot works. Looc's westerly orientation means the Amihan (northeast monsoon, roughly November through May) blows offshore here, which rules out the dry-season crowd entirely. If your trip is built around kitesurfing, aim for mid-season when wind reliability is highest rather than the shoulder months at either end. What Looc offers in exchange for the travel effort is quiet. Romblon province draws a fraction of the kiteboarders that head to Luzon or the central Visayas, and Looc in particular stays well off the beaten track. If you're the type who prefers empty water and a local pace over resorts and packed launch zones, the extra hours on the ferry are worth it.
