Ilig-Iligan Beach sits at the northwest tip of Boracay, a completely different world from the tourist-packed White Beach to the south or the kite-centric Bulabog on the island's eastern shore. This is Boracay's wild side — a wave-exposed stretch of coastline that faces northwest (roughly 315°) and catches the full force of the Habagat, the southwest monsoon that rolls through from June to September. During Habagat season, the prevailing southwest wind wraps around the island's northern tip and hits Ilig-Iligan with solid swell and textured chop — conditions that Bulabog, sheltered on the east side, simply doesn't see. If you've spent time on Bulabog's flat-water kiteboarding and fancy something with more juice, Ilig-Iligan is where you come. The beach itself is narrower and more natural than the resort strips elsewhere on the island. Getting here from the main tourist area means either a tricycle ride around the island's north — roads are navigable but take your time with gear — or a short boat transfer, which some riders prefer. There's no established kite infrastructure at the beach itself; this isn't a school setup spot. Launch and land with care, keeping well clear of swimmers and any beach vendors, and scout the area at low tide first to understand the sandbar layout. The wind arc runs 225°–45°, which means the spot works best when the Habagat is pushing from the southwest through west. On those days, you get a cross-onshore to side-on angle that's workable but demands attention — wave sets come in with real force, and the conditions lean intermediate-to-advanced. If you're early in your wave-riding journey, this is a spot to watch before you kite; experienced wave riders will find it uncrowded and genuinely exciting. Hazards to keep in mind: the northwest-facing exposure means swell can build quickly, and the water is considerably rougher than anything you'd see at Bulabog. Shallow sections near the beach edges deserve respect, especially at lower tides. Always check conditions on arrival rather than assuming. For facilities, the beach itself keeps things minimal. The nearest accommodation is Chillax Boracay, roughly 900 metres away. Food and drink options within about a kilometre include Crust Beach Bar & Restaurant and Carenderia Devine Refreshment. Beach Bites and Bakery Chef Philip's Cafe sit slightly further at around 1.2 kilometres. If you need kite instruction or gear support, Bolabog Beach Kiteboarding operates back on the east side of the island, about 1.8 kilometres away — most kiters at Ilig-Iligan arrive self-sufficient. The trade-off at Ilig-Iligan is clear: you give up the support infrastructure and flat-water predictability of Bulabog for uncrowded, authentic wave riding during the southwest monsoon season. For intermediate-to-advanced riders who want to make the most of a Boracay kite trip, it's worth the extra effort to get here.
