Standing at the very tip of Punta Marroquí, inside Tarifa town, you are at the southernmost kite spot on the European mainland — and the Strait of Gibraltar makes sure you feel it. The beach sits in front of the Balneario spa complex, facing due south into the strait with Morocco close enough to seem reachable. This is where Europe runs out of land. Getting here is straightforward: the spot is within Tarifa town itself, right at the point. The Balneario beach is exposed to whatever the strait decides to push through, with a wind arc running from 60° through to 300° — meaning both of Tarifa's signature systems put you squarely in a workable window. Tarifa is defined by two winds: the Levante, which drives in from the east, and the Poniente, which arrives from the west. At Punta Marroquí, you are at the narrowest pinch of the strait where these systems accelerate and compress. Both can be powerful, and both can be gusty. Conditions shift, gusts bite, and the wind that looked manageable from shore can have considerably more snap once you are in the water. This is not a place to practise fundamentals — it is a place where experienced riders arrive ready, knowing the session will likely demand something from them. The water character deserves full respect. The Strait of Gibraltar carries strong, persistent currents as Atlantic and Mediterranean water masses push past each other. Combine that with gusty overhead conditions and you have a spot where getting yourself out of trouble requires composure and competence. This is an advanced-only location — not a preference but a requirement. The wide kite window from 60° to 300° is generous in theory, but the power packed into either Tarifa wind can make even that broad arc feel demanding. Gear selection matters here: the gusty nature of strait conditions typically calls for a smaller, more controlled setup than the forecast numbers alone might suggest. Facilities are solid given you are still within town. Chiringuito Restaurante Waikiki Tarifa is practically on the doorstep at around 194m, making post-session food easy. El Abuelo and El Encuentro are both within 260m if you want coffee or a cold drink before launching. Bar Marracash and Como en Casa sit within 400m. Balneario Beach Club Tarifa, which gives the beach its name, is also close. For a stay, Camping Tarifa is the nearest camp option though it sits around 8km out — Tarifa town has plenty of accommodation within easy reach. The season runs March through October, tracking the reliable Levante and Poniente cycles. Summer can deliver long stretches of consistent wind, but the strait never goes quiet — it stays switched on. If you have the skills to handle what this point throws at you, the payoff is riding at the edge of a continent where the geography does the heavy lifting.
