Oliva Nova sits on the Costa Blanca coast, tucked just south of Dénia in the Valencia region of Spain. This is classic Mediterranean kite territory — a sand dune shoreline that stretches away from the water's edge, a thermal that shows up reliably through the warmer months, and a kite school set up right on the beach to handle instruction, safety, and gear rentals. The beach faces roughly east-southeast, which puts the Garbí — the SE/S sea breeze that defines summer afternoons across this stretch of the Costa Blanca — delivering clean, onshore wind through the main season. It builds as the land heats up through midday and tends to peak in the afternoon hours, giving you a predictable daily window to plan around from May through September. The usable wind arc runs from NNE around to SSE (30°–170°), so the spot handles a decent spread of directions without the window tipping into dangerously side-offshore territory in any common wind scenario. On the water you get a straightforward Mediterranean setup: relatively flat to moderate chop depending on how the thermal is running, manageable for progression, and nothing that will blindside an intermediate rider working on water starts, transitions, or early attempts at going upwind. Beginners are well catered to — kite school infrastructure is on-site, which means proper instruction, supervision, and rescue coverage without needing to arrange anything from a distance. The dune coastline gives you room to rig and set up without immediately fighting for space with swimmers, though the height of summer brings more beach traffic into the picture. Launch from the dune zone, check the beach in front of you before walking your kite down, and maintain clearance before heading out. After a session, Oli-Ba-Ba Beach Club handles cold drinks and the beach bar mood. For a proper sit-down meal, the area around Oliva Nova covers everything from solid Spanish cooking at Casa Maribel and La Pérgola to the more casual Restaurante Camping Olé and Restaurante Camping Pepe. Bar Sargantana and Ferrero take care of quick drinks and coffee. La gelateria di Max is the obvious stop after a hot afternoon on the water. Aura and Galiwine round out the evening options. For timing, Oliva Nova is at its best May through September when the Garbí builds reliably and the Mediterranean is warm enough for a shorty or boardshorts session. Outside those months the thermal weakens and sessions become less predictable — not impossible, but you're chasing it rather than planning around it. Gear-wise, the thermal builds through the afternoon, so arriving over-kited is a more common misstep here than under-kited. Give yourself some room to size down if conditions build strong. Full wetsuits are rarely needed through the height of summer, which keeps the kit bag light.
