Playa Mujeres and Playa Dorada sit on the sheltered south-east tip of Lanzarote, tucked just east of Playa Blanca — the island's main ferry town. This is a very different riding experience from Lanzarote's more exposed stretches. The SE-facing shoreline catches the NE trade wind side-onshore from the right, giving the breeze an angle that feels manageable and forgiving rather than aggressive. The trade-off for that shelter is wind strength. Because the bay is naturally protected, conditions here are typically lighter than at the island's more exposed spots. Bring a bigger kite than you might otherwise reach for, and watch closely on days when the trade is underperforming — there's less reserve if the wind drops off mid-session. Water state is the spot's real selling point. Flat to gently choppy along most of the beach, with no heavy shore break to negotiate on your way in or out. Keep in mind that sheltered trade winds carry their own quirks — lighter, occasionally gusty, and less predictable than what you'd feel on a fully exposed headland. Your kite management still needs to be on point, even when the sea looks benign. Access is straightforward from Playa Blanca's resort strip; the beach is walkable from the main tourist zone. The launch zone is sandy and open, but this is a popular tourist beach — during busy periods, swimmers and sunbathers will share the shore. Read the beach before you rig, pick your launch corridor carefully, and give yourself time to brief any bystanders if needed. The usable kite window runs 40° through to 200°, covering the NE trade arc cleanly. Work that window and you'll track along the beach line without being pushed deep downwind. Facilities around Playa Dorada are solid for a post-session wind-down. Bikers Beach Club, El Mirador, and Casa Josè handle the food side; Atlantis and Contin Ice Cream are nearby for drinks and a quick break. Burger King is in the area if you want something fast. For accommodation right on the doorstep, Aparthotel Rubimar, Cay Beach Sun Hotel, Club Marmara, and Flamingo beach all sit within easy reach of the water. Playa Mujeres rewards those who time it right. Get the NE trade flowing, the beach reasonably quiet, and you've got a flat, side-onshore session on the southern tip of Lanzarote that's hard to argue with — especially for riders still building their skills.
