Grandes Playas sits inside the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park on Fuerteventura's northeast coast — a wide, sandy beach backed by protected dunes that keep development at bay and help funnel the trade wind cleanly onto the water. The spot lies roughly 1.5 kilometres south of Flag Beach, making it an easy addition to any Corralejo coastline scouting run: you can drive or walk between the two spots in a few minutes. The beach faces east to southeast. The dominant wind here is the N-NE Alisios — Fuerteventura's reliable trade-wind engine — and that shore orientation means you get side-onshore conditions when the Alisios is running. That's a comfortable angle for most riders: proper power in the kite window and a natural downwind drift toward the beach rather than out to open water if something goes wrong. The usable wind arc here stretches from 30° to 190°, so you're not dependent on a pinpoint direction to get a proper session in. Water state is flat to choppy. There's no meaningful wave break to manage, which removes one variable from the equation. Combined with the side-onshore wind angle, that makes Grandes Playas approachable for beginners — and the fact that it's larger than Flag Beach means there's typically more room to move. Intermediate and experienced riders will find it comfortable for a freeride or freestyle session without having to thread through a crowd. Launching is from the sandy foreshore. The beach is wide and the natural park status means there's no resort infrastructure right on the sand, so you have room to rig and lay out your lines without tripping over sunbeds. The dune backdrop tends to clean up the incoming wind, but as with any side-onshore spot, confirm your drift direction before you go up and identify your downwind zone before you launch. For food and drink after the session, there are several options in the area: Bahiazul, Banana Beach Club, Beach Club Las Palmeras, El Caracol, El Caracol Beach Club Grandes Playas, and Flow Beach Club. If you need accommodation close to the water, BLUESEA Aloe Corralejo Spa is nearby. Three kite schools operate around this stretch of coast — Flag Beach Windsurf, Kitesurf, Surf, Wingfoil Centre; NaturalSense.eu's Corralejo Beach Kitesurf Spot Fuerteventura; and Gecko Windsurf School Corralejo — covering lessons and likely gear rental. The season window runs March through November, when the Alisios trades are most consistent. Come outside that range and you'll find conditions patchier and less reliable.
