There is no walk-in or beach launch — plan your logistics before you arrive and connect with an operator who can handle transfers. That extra step filters out the casual visitor and means the water is typically shared with people who are serious about being there. Once out on the water, the flat offshore islets create a sheltered lagoon that is a genuine contrast to anything rougher outside. The water is crystal clear and shallow, flat in the areas protected by the islands. It is the kind of surface that suits a long, powered run without fighting chop — useful for intermediate and experienced riders alike who want to work on technique or simply enjoy consistent conditions. The dominant wind is NE, which sits cross-offshore relative to the riding area. The 340°–160° kite window is wide, and the NE trade wind lands comfortably within it most days. That cross-offshore angle is a double-edged factor: it tends to keep the water flat in the lagoon, but it also means that if you get into trouble, you are not drifting toward shore. A rescue service is actively recommended here — take that seriously. The venturi effect can produce strong, sustained wind, and the combination of cross-offshore angle and reef and coral hazards makes self-rescue genuinely uncertain. Hazards are concrete: reefs and corals are present in the water. Wear booties, get a briefing on where the reef sections are before you ride, and do not push into unfamiliar corners without local knowledge. The flat water looks inviting but the ground beneath it is not forgiving. The René Egli Center is the established operation on site, covering windsurfing, kite, and wing-foil. Wind here is genuinely year-round, sustained by the island's geography rather than seasonal patterns alone. Conditions vary in strength and gust character from session to session, but the fundamental wind direction and overall reliability hold consistent.
