About Tarajalejo

Tarajalejo sits on Fuerteventura's east coast, roughly 16 kilometres south of the Sotavento lagoon, and it has the feel of a spot that hasn't been overrun yet. The village is still essentially a fishing village — low-rise, quiet, without the coaching-school infrastructure of the more famous nearby beaches. The kite conditions, however, are genuinely solid. The consistent NE trade wind blows side-onshore here, which keeps the water flat and the riding comfortable. Sandy bottom, calm water, and a less crowded beach make this a natural fit for intermediate riders looking to put in quality freeride time without the hectic mid-session traffic of Sotavento or Flag Beach. The usable wind arc runs 10° to 170° — a wide window that comfortably accommodates the trade wind direction and offers some flexibility when conditions shift slightly north or south of northeast. Getting to Tarajalejo means heading south along Fuerteventura's east coast. The village is modest in size and parking near the beach is generally straightforward — it's not a spot where you'll be circling for a gap or queuing for a beach car park. Most of the time there's room to rig without stress. The launch area is sandy and relatively uncomplicated. Flat-water freeride is the main discipline here — the east coast doesn't produce significant swell — and what you get on a good day is consistent, workable water for cruising, practising transitions, or pushing your jump height without worrying about other riders in the way. For food and drinks after your session, the village has solid options. Restaurante La Barraca and Restaurante Adeyu are both available for a proper sit-down meal. Cafetería el Drago is the pick for a quick coffee. Pizza & Pasta FauFal covers you if you want something easy. For accommodation, R2 Bahia Playa and R2 Romantic Fantasia Suites are both based nearby, which makes Tarajalejo a workable base rather than just a day-trip destination. A few honest notes: this is an intermediate spot. The conditions are not extreme — the flat water and side-onshore angle are genuinely forgiving — but the Canarian trade wind can be persistent and stronger than expected on some days, and there's no dedicated kite school or rescue service on the beach. Come with your own gear, solid body-dragging skills, and a buddy if you can manage it. Self-sufficiency matters here. The trade-off for all of this is one of the more relaxed sessions you'll find on Fuerteventura. Less noise, more water — and the fishing village atmosphere makes it feel like you haven't quite followed the crowds yet.
