The beach faces northeast, and the wind arc — running from roughly north-northeast to south-southeast — aligns neatly with Pemba's two main seasonal monsoons. The Kaskazi, the northeast monsoon, sweeps in off the Indian Ocean and gives the first main window of the year. Later, the Kusi takes over as the southeast monsoon, typically building through the afternoon to solid riding strength. Between the two seasons there are transition periods where conditions can be unsettled — time your visit to one of the established windows and check conditions in the days before you travel. Water-side, expect the kind of scene that justifies the journey: clear tropical water, a beach that's likely to have minimal footprints, and the sort of blue that makes you want to stay out longer than planned.
