Chaloklum Bay sits on the north coast of Koh Phangan, tucked into a sheltered natural bay at the edge of a working fishing village. The contrast with the island's famous party scene to the south is immediate — here it's longtail boats at anchor, local restaurants, and a pace that suits riders who came to kite rather than festival-hop. Getting here from the south coast means winding over the hills to the north shore. Once you reach the village, the setup is straightforward — the waterfront is open, there's space to rig on the beach, and you're in the water without much ceremony. The bay divides into two very different riding environments. Inside the bay proper, the water is flat and calm — a natural lagoon that smooths out chop and rewards clean riding. Outside, when the north wind is up, you'll find head-high reef waves that change the character of the session entirely. That outside section is for experienced wave riders; the reef is there and it doesn't move. The usable wind arc runs from 270° to 90°, covering westerly through northerly to easterly directions. The prime season is November through January, when N and NE winds arrive at roughly 12–22 knots, side-onshore relative to the bay mouth — a workable angle without the stress of a dead-onshore setup. The bay is sheltered from south swell, which keeps the inside manageable through the winter months. This is not a spot that forgives inexperience. The reef outside, variable swell when the wind builds, and the need to read conditions before committing to the outside make Chaloklum better suited to experienced riders. Intermediates can work the inside lagoon on lighter days, but the reef line is not a learning zone.
