Laem Tong Beach holds down the northern tip of Koh Phi Phi Don, a flat sandy bay facing northwest that most visitors never find — they're stuck in the boat queues heading to the southern beaches. That quiet is precisely the point. When the northeast trades arrive in December and run through February, this little bay turns into one of the Andaman's more underrated kite setups. Getting here requires a boat. Koh Phi Phi has no roads connecting its bays, so you'll take a longtail or speedboat from Krabi Town, Ao Nang, or one of the main ferry piers. The journey is part of the deal — by the time you reach Laem Tong, the day-trippers and tour groups are mostly elsewhere. The beach faces northwest, with a shore normal running around 315°. The NE trades blow from the NNE, which puts the wind side-shore — a clean angle that lets you run up and down the bay without drifting offshore or pinning yourself onto the sand. Wind speed during the core season typically sits between 12 and 18 knots: enough for a real session and comfortable for intermediates who want to work on lines and technique rather than fight through survival-mode conditions. The northern peninsula does solid work blocking NW swells, keeping the bay noticeably flatter than the exposed southern beaches during the trade season. Your launch sits north of the resort jetty. That is the clear zone: no longtails, no tourist boats, just a sandy beach and open water ahead of you. South of the jetty, boat traffic picks up — know where the line is before you rig. The bay is straightforward once you are on the water, with no obstacles reported north of the launch area. At 12–18 knots you are in lighter-wind territory by Thai standards. Bring kite options toward the larger end of your quiver and plan accordingly. This is not a freestyle park or a jumping destination — it is a place to ride clean lines in flat water with a view that earns its own reputation. Intermediates with a solid upwind can handle this wind angle comfortably; experienced riders may find it a recovery-day spot rather than a highlight-reel session. Facilities are limited to what the resort provides — water, food, a place to rinse off. There is no dedicated kite school or rental operation on site, so arrive self-sufficient with your own gear sorted before leaving the mainland. Laem Tong rewards the organised and the patient. Time your visit right, show up with the right kit, and you will have a flat-water side-shore session with almost nobody around.
