Ao Nang sits on Krabi's west-facing Andaman coast, wedged between dramatic limestone karst towers that rise sheer from the sea on three sides. The season is tight and well-defined. November through March, the northeast monsoon delivers 15–22 knots of side-shore wind across the bay, running roughly parallel to the 248° shore normal. It's consistent rather than powerful — enough to keep most riders moving comfortably without demanding conditions. Outside that window, June through October, the Andaman's southwest monsoon closes the spot entirely; conditions aren't viable for kiting during those months, so plan accordingly. The usable wind arc spans 180° to 315° — south through northwest — which aligns with the northeast season's prevailing direction. The side-shore angle gives you room to work upwind and keeps you off the beach without pushing you into trouble. The flat water inside the island barrier rewards freeriders and riders working on technique without the distraction of lumpy chop. Ao Nang is a busy resort town, and you feel that on the beach. Longtail boats run constant shuttle services to the nearby islands throughout the day, and the inshore zone sees steady traffic. Launch away from the main boat landing areas — pick a quieter stretch and keep one eye on what's moving in the water during your session. The limestone cliffs that make the setting spectacular also mean there's less room to drift toward the walls if conditions lighten unexpectedly. For intermediate riders, this spot checks solid boxes: flat water, consistent seasonal wind, and a manageable strength range. Beginners should get proper instruction before heading out here — the active boat traffic and the need to read the zone make this a step above a learner beach.
