Djerba's Houmt Souk Lagoon sits just off the northern tourist strip of Tunisia's most visited island, stretching out as a wide, shallow expanse of flat water that catches the prevailing N/NE flow through much of the year. Houmt Souk is the island's capital — meaning you've got a proper town behind you, with hotels, restaurants, and kite schools all within easy reach before or after a session. The lagoon itself is the main draw. Water depth runs very shallow across most of the riding area, which makes this one of the more forgiving spots for anyone still working on water starts or upwind riding. Flat conditions are the norm here — no swell to deal with, just the thermal breeze building into the afternoon and a surface that sits almost still on lighter days. Winds blow predominantly from the N/NE, and the usable kite window spans from roughly west through to east (270°–90°), so you've got workable range even when direction shifts slightly. Thermals fire reliably through the warmer months — the season runs from March to November and peaks in July, August, and September, when afternoon sessions are typically the most consistent. Boat traffic is a real consideration here. The lagoon sees regular activity from local vessels, and kite zones are designated for a reason. Stick to them, keep your line angles in check. It's a shared space, and a bit of awareness goes a long way. For facilities, the area around Houmt Souk delivers well. You've got options like El Fondouk, Ezzedine, and Chez Smayer for a post-session meal, plus several cafés — Café Ben Daamech, Café El Haj Hassan, and Café Le Garage — if you're after coffee or something cold before rigging. Bab el Medina, Al_ATIK RESTAURANT, and Brik Belgacem round out the food scene nearby. Ben Yedder is there if you want a drink without committing to a full meal. Kite schools operate in the area, making this a genuinely good place to take your first steps on a kite. The shallow water and flat conditions remove a lot of the variables that make other spots tricky for learners. That said, thermals build as the day heats up — mornings tend to be lighter and easier to manage when you're still finding your feet. This is a practical, well-connected lagoon session.
