Yati Beach sits on the northeastern shore of Djerba, the low-lying island that edges into the Gulf of Gabès off southern Tunisia. The beach is part of the Zone Touristique strip near Midoun — a long run of sand flanked by resort hotels that doubles as one of the island's more established kite spots. The approach is straightforward: the zone is well-signposted from Midoun, and most accommodation here puts you within walking distance of the water. The shore faces northeast, which means the prevailing N and NE winds arrive cross-onshore — a broadly safe angle that keeps you moving parallel to the beach rather than being pushed straight out to sea. The usable kite window runs from roughly northwest (310°) through to southeast-ish (130°), so the spot tolerates a wide swing of wind direction before things get awkward. Sandy bottom throughout the launch zone, and the beach itself is wide enough to rig without hunting for space. Wind-wise there are effectively two seasons here. May through September brings consistent afternoon thermals — the kind that fill in around midday and ease off by early evening. They're reliable enough to plan around, though they won't always top out to full power before noon. November through April tends to deliver stronger, more consistent sessions driven by regional pressure patterns pushing down from the Mediterranean. These aren't gentle thermals — they can arrive with more punch and less warning, so checking a forecast the evening before is worthwhile. Kite schools and rental stations operate near the beach, which makes this a practical choice if you're travelling without gear or want local guidance on current conditions. Instructors here know the spot's tidal rhythm and wind quirks better than any app will. Facilities along the beach are solid for a kite spot. MÙJA Djerba - Restaurant & Plage and Sindbad Beach Restaurant & Bar both offer post-session food right on the waterfront, while Zenseabar and Café Del Amor cover the drinks side. Complexe Yati Beach 1, Café 203, and SPORTING BEACH add more options along the strip. If you're staying, Calimera Yati Beach and Calimer Yati Beach are the closest hotels to the action, with Camping de L'Ile de Djerba offering a more budget-friendly base. For intermediates and above, Yati Beach is a comfortable working spot — cross-onshore wind, sandy bottom, and a resort zone behind you that means help is never far away. Beginners are better served with a school alongside them rather than going it alone, if only because the afternoon thermals can build quickly and the water opens out into the gulf once you're off the beach. Keep an eye on the wind arc: north or northeast works well here, but a shift south of 130° takes you outside the usable window.
