The shallow, flat bay is well-suited to beginners learning with a school, and intermediate riders will find it excellent for building confidence and progressing freestyle moves. Advanced riders enjoy the consistent power and space for bigger tricks. That said, the wind can strengthen quickly and the bay gets crowded, so complete beginners should stick to structured lessons rather than self-teaching.

The dominant wind is the Imbat, a thermally driven northerly that is the local expression of the broader Aegean Meltemi. It typically builds from the north to north-northwest, funneling through the U-shaped bay. It usually arrives between 10 and 11 in the morning and peaks in the early-to-mid afternoon before easing towards evening.

The main hazards are the wind amplification effect of the bay (conditions can be stronger than forecast), the crowd of mixed water users including windsurfers and SUP paddlers, and the need to observe designated zones. The shallow bottom is generally forgiving for falls, but you should always launch and land with a helper and be aware of other riders nearby.

The launch beach sits at the head of the bay and provides a sandy, relatively spacious area for rigging and launching. Schools and rental centers are stationed nearby, so there is usually assistance available. The water enters shallow immediately, which is helpful for self-rescue and relaunching, but means you should be considerate of other beach users when swinging your kite.
