A shallow, protected U-shaped bay accelerates the thermal Meltemi (locally called "Imbat") wind through a natural Venturi effect, adding several knots above forecast. The N-to-NNE Meltemi builds daily from around 10–11 am, regularly reaching 20–30 kt, and eases in the evening. The inner lagoon section (< 3 m deep, 500 × 400 m) stays glassy flat, making it ideal for all levels from beginners to elite freestyle riders; the outer Pırlanta Beach section offers wave riding when the wind is stronger. About Alaçatı

Alaçatı sits on the Çeşme peninsula in Turkey's İzmir Province, on the western Aegean coast. The spot's reputation precedes it — this U-shaped bay has hosted PWA Windsurfing World Tour events and draws riders from across the world, and for good reason. The bay works as a natural nozzle. The shallow, protected shape funnels the thermal Meltemi — known locally as the Imbat — and regularly adds several knots above what the forecast shows. That N-to-NNE wind builds most days from around 10–11 am, typically reaching 20–30 kt before easing in the evening. You can usually count on a reliable daily window through the season, but don't expect anything in the morning — the Imbat runs on its own schedule. The inner lagoon is the draw for most kiters. Under 3 metres deep across a 500 × 400 metre stretch, it stays glassy flat even when the wind is cooking. Beginners can learn without fear of washing-machine conditions, and freestyle riders can work tricks on mirror-smooth water without a chop penalty. The outer section at Pırlanta Beach opens up wave riding when the wind comes through stronger — a different ride entirely if you know when to move out there. Approach is straightforward — the bay is accessible from Alaçatı village, a picturesque settlement noted for its stone architecture, windmills, and vineyards. Parking is available near the beach, though it fills up in peak summer. The launch area is sandy and wide enough to rig without elbow-fighting, even on busier days. On the water: kite traffic is real. This is a popular destination with riders of all levels mixing in the inner lagoon, so spatial awareness matters from the moment you launch. The shallow depth makes wipeouts less dangerous, but board contact with the bottom is possible in the shallowest sections. Watch the bay boundary too — the Venturi effect means wind speed can change noticeably between the inner and outer sections. On the beach, Micro Kitesurf Center is one of the leading facilities at the spot, alongside ADVANCE KITING SURF SCHOOL and Kite and More School for lessons and rental. Active Surf and Alacati Surf Paradise Club are kite schools in the wider area. For food and accommodation, the village delivers. Agrilia and 2kapi are restaurants within roughly 500m of the launch; Afet Hanım Konağı is a guesthouse under 500m away; Alacati Alaris Hotel sits about 600m from the water. Alaçatı Bubble Waffle kızarmış Dondurma is nearby for a post-session treat. Season runs May through October. High summer brings the most reliable thermal winds, but May, June, and September typically offer cleaner, less crowded riding. If flat-water freestyle is your priority, this is one of the better setups in the Mediterranean for it.
