About Sheraton Çeşme / Ilica

Ilica is a coastal town on the Çeşme peninsula, İzmir province, tucked into a northeast-facing bay along the Aegean coast. The Sheraton Çeşme resort sits at the water's edge here, and the beach beside it has become a steady spot for kitesurfers looking for protected, flat-water conditions within reach of the Meltemi. The bay's orientation — open to the northwest through northeast — catches the Meltemi thermal that builds across the Aegean through summer afternoons. Don't plan around mornings: wind here typically picks up from noon onward, and the hours before that tend to stay light. The same system drives Alaçati just a short distance down the peninsula, and the two spots share a broadly overlapping season window. Water conditions are the main draw. The bay is wide, shallow, and sandy, with flat water when the N-NE Meltemi is properly established — the kind of surface that suits beginners and anyone working on freestyle without swell pushing through. The sandy bottom and manageable depth make entry and exit forgiving, which is why local kite schools run lessons here regularly. Conditions predictable enough to build a teaching programme around tend to stay that way. The usable kite window runs from 315° to 135° — roughly northwest through east and back toward southeast via north — which is a broad arc. NE is the productive corner when the Meltemi is running cleanly, pushing onshore across the bay. Launch is from the sandy beach. The wide shoreline gives space to lay out your lines, but this is a resort beach: check the water for swimmers and leisure craft before you walk up your kite. Earlier afternoon slots, when wind has arrived but peak beach activity hasn't yet built, can give you cleaner launches and a quieter water environment. When you're done, Ilica has a solid range nearby. Kumrucu Hüseyin and Kumrucu Şevki both do grilled meat sandwiches — exactly the kind of fast, local food a beach crowd wants after two hours on the water. Dost Pide and Cardak cover pide and fuller meals; Köfteci Ali Baba handles köfte; Grill and Ilica cafe round out the sit-down options. For a post-session drink, C & V Bar, Bolulu Hastan Usta, and Caffe Vagon are all in the area. Ilica works well as either a primary spot on the Çeşme peninsula or a calmer alternative when conditions are tricky elsewhere.
