Çalış Beach sits on a long, wide sandy bay on Turkey's Aegean coast, roughly 3 kilometres north of Fethiye town. The beach is flat and open, backed by the dramatic ridgeline of the Lycian mountains — the same terrain that channels the reliable NW Imbat thermal onto the bay each afternoon from June through September. The Imbat typically builds from around 13:00 and runs through to 19:00, delivering 12 to 22 knots from the northwest. The usable kite window covers 135° to 315°, giving solid margin either side of the classic Imbat direction. Mornings are generally calm, so the spot runs on a predictable afternoon-only schedule through the peak season. When it switches on, it tends to stay on — this is a thermal with a routine, not a guessing game. Launch from the sandy beach itself. The water is shallow close to shore, which gives you comfortable time to body drag clear before things deepen. That shallowness is a genuine asset for beginners getting their board starts dialled in. On stronger afternoons — when the Imbat pushes toward its upper range — the surface can turn choppy, so expect some texture if you're still on the water late in the window.
