About Tatajuba

Tatajuba sits at the western edge of Ceará state, tucked into a river mouth just west of Camocim on a north-facing stretch of coastline that's as remote as Brazilian kiting gets. Getting here is part of the deal: the access track requires a 4×4, and that filters out anyone not serious about what's waiting on the other end. What you find is a tidal lagoon that forms twice a day as the tide floods across the river mouth and the beach flats. When conditions line up, that water goes dead flat — the kind of surface that makes a board feel like it's running on glass. The lagoon is the headline act here, and it earns its reputation. The wind is NE-to-E trade, blowing side-onshore from the right on this north-facing coast. The usable kite window runs 265° to 85°, giving you a wide arc to work with. From July through February the wind probability sits at 99% — as reliable as it gets anywhere in the tropics — with speeds typically in the 20–30 knot range. Outside that window conditions become far less consistent. The tidal cycle shapes your session. At high tide the lagoon fills and flattens; at low tide it drains and the riding character shifts. Timing your launch around the flood makes a real difference to what you get on the water. Launch is off the north-facing beach. The river mouth brings current into the mix and the sandbar layout changes with the tide, so walk the zone before you rig up. The side-onshore angle keeps a self-rescue manageable, but stay aware of the river channel and where any drift might carry you. This is a remote spot — quick help is not a given. For skill level, the flat-water lagoon makes a solid case for intermediates looking to progress. Smooth water and a steady side-onshore breeze are about as friendly a training combination as you'll find. That said, the tidal dynamics and 4×4-only access mean you'll want to be comfortable managing changing conditions and fully self-sufficient with gear before making this your first independent kite trip. On the ground, Cabana Chic and Cabana Chic Sunrise offer accommodation in the village. Zona do Mar is the local option for food and drinks. The setup is small and unhurried. Bring your own kit and a full set of spares. The remoteness is the draw.
