Tibau do Sul anchors the clifftop village of Pipa roughly 100 km south of Natal on Brazil's Rio Grande do Norte coast. The SE trade wind arrives side-onshore and typically runs 15–25 knots from July through January, making this stretch one of northeastern Brazil's more consistent kite destinations. The usable wind arc sweeps from 320° around to 100°, which keeps you in business through the dominant trade-wind directions. Pipa is roughly 100 km south of Natal, accessible by road. The town itself perches on the clifftops — the sort of place where the accommodation, restaurants, and bars are all up high, and the beaches are accessed via footpaths that drop down through the vegetation. This is a proper resort village, so infrastructure is solid: kite schools and rental outfits operate here, and finding food, a cold drink, or somewhere to sleep is not the challenge it might be at a more remote spot. The standout feature for kiters is the dual character of the water. Praia do Amor is the wave beach, sitting below the cliffs and catching the SE swell directly. On the right day it delivers proper wave riding — faces with enough shape to work, side-onshore conditions that let you stay upwind, and the kind of session that rewards riders who know what they're doing in swell. The estuary sections are the flip side: flat, sheltered water that suits freeride, freestyle, and anyone working on foil technique. Having both within reach of the same base is a genuine advantage. The cliff terrain can affect the airflow in the launch zone — gusting and wind shadow are possible on rougher days, so getting a local read before heading to Praia do Amor is worthwhile. The estuary is more forgiving in that regard: steadier air, easier launch, fewer surprises. Post-session, the town delivers. Cavalo de fogo, Natural Brasil, Crepeia por do Sol, Panda, and Pirambu are restaurant options for a proper meal. For drinks while the sun drops, Mirante Sunset Bar, Holland, Ostras da Pipa, and Ponta do Pirambu are worth knowing — the clifftop sunset views are the obvious draw. July through January is the time to be here, when the trades blow most reliably. The shoulder months can still produce rideable days but with more variance. Pipa suits intermediates and above best — the wave beach asks for competence in side-on conditions, and even the estuary rewards riders who are already self-sufficient. Beginners are covered by local schools who will point you toward appropriate water. High season gets busy, so early sessions before the crowds build give you a cleaner experience at both spots.
