About Gradina

Gradina sits on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast near Sozopol, a beach that's grown into one of the more organised kite spots on this stretch of coastline. The coordinates put you south of Burgas, in a pocket that catches the NE, E and SE winds that roll off the Black Sea — the same directions that make this coast tick for kitesurfers through the warmer months. Getting here is straightforward from Sozopol or Burgas; follow the coast road south and look for the campsite signs — Camping Gradina is the main landmark and a useful reference point for navigation. Parking tends to be informal along the beachfront, and the campsite itself offers accommodation if you want to stay close to the water. The usable wind arc runs from around 23° through to 157°, meaning NNE, NE, E and SE all fall inside the kite window. When the wind sits in that NE-to-E range, you're looking at an onshore-to-side-on angle depending on where you set up on the beach, so work out your safety margin before you rig. SE winds can shift things more side-off, which changes the calculus on self-rescue and how far you want to push upwind. The beach is a coastal launch, open enough to rig comfortably. The presence of three kite schools — CampOn, KITE-DOCTOR, and Kite&Surf Park — tells you something useful: this isn't a secret local spot anymore, it's a place with real infrastructure. That's good news if you need kit hire, lessons, or a local briefing on current conditions before you head out. Water character on the Black Sea is generally flatter than Atlantic breaks — lower swell, moderate chop when the wind picks up, but conditions vary with direction and strength. When NE blows consistently, expect chop to build as the session goes on. The enclosed sea means no tidal range to manage, which simplifies launch logistics and removes one variable from your planning. After riding, the beach delivers on food and drinks. Bar & Dinner Рибката, BORGO by Biblioteka Beach Bar & Restaurant, THE WAVE BEACH RESTAURANT, Masarro beach, Kohi Kohi, and Surf Bar are all within reach of the waterfront. Surf Bar is the natural stop for a cold drink after a long session. Skill-level-wise, Gradina can suit intermediates upward when the wind is consistent from NE or E. Beginners are better off booking time with one of the kite schools before heading out independently. The main thing to respect is the wind direction: a shift toward SE can move conditions from side-on to side-off relatively quickly. Know your self-rescue, watch the forecast, and tell someone onshore your plan if you're riding far from the launch.
