Sozopol is one of the oldest settlements on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, a compact peninsula town roughly 35 kilometres south of Burgas by road. The old town sits on a rocky headland draped in cobbled streets and wooden houses, with beaches stretching to the north and south of the peninsula — and those beaches are where the kiting happens. The usable wind window runs from NNE to SSE (23° to 157°), making NE, E, and SE the working directions. The Black Sea has its own personality: shorter fetch than any ocean, modest but punchy chop under a solid NE blow, and noticeably lower salinity than the Mediterranean — meaning you float slightly less than you might expect, which catches some riders off guard on their first session. The north beach area near Harmanite — the newer, more spacious part of Sozopol — is generally the better choice for kiting. It offers more room to rig and a wider launch window than the old town beaches, which get tight and crowded with tourists in peak season. Arrive early and you'll find parking close to the water; mid-morning in July and August that window closes fast. Wind comes in from the NE and E across open water. SE is within the window too. Anything outside the 23°–157° arc and conditions become less predictable — if the wind shifts significantly, it's worth packing up and waiting for it to settle back in. On the water, Black Sea chop keeps things lively. Under NE and E winds the surface builds into short, steep waves rather than rolling swells — busy underfoot, especially for intermediate riders still working on their pop. Freeriding and cruising suit the spot well; flat-water freestyle will feel more like work here. For skill level, intermediates and above will be most comfortable. Confident water-starts, solid upwind riding, and the ability to manage a launch around other beach users are the practical basics. The combination of choppy water and a busy summer beach is not the right setting for complete beginners. After a session, Sozopol delivers. Restaurants nearby include Best Döner, Bistro byalata kashta, Black Sea, Ksantana, Old Sailor, and Onegin. For drinks and an end-of-day atmosphere, Breeze, Harmany Bar & Dinner, Send, and Teras are the local options. The old town itself is worth an evening — the kind of place that earns it.

You've already got wind data — the hard part is knowing what it means for you. Most kiters end up checking two, three, four apps and still asking: can I actually go? Breeza was built by a kiter who had the same problem. Feed it your gear, weight and level and it tells you if Sozopol is rideable right now. The answer, not the tabs.
