Nea Peramos sits on a south-facing bay in Thrace, about 20 km west of Kavala city in Greece's eastern Aegean corner. It is not a spot that turns up on every kiter's shortlist, which is part of the appeal — in peak Meltemi season you are unlikely to be fighting for water space. The beach is a broad sandy strip that catches the northerly head-on from June through September, typically running 15–25 knots, and because the bay opens south, the wind comes in as genuine onshore rather than sideshore. That means a safe direction if you get into trouble, but it also means you need to know exactly where you are going downwind before you unroll your kite — scope the beach length and identify your exit marker before you rig. Getting here is practical: Kavala airport puts the spot within reach of European connections, and the drive west toward Nea Peramos from the city is short. The beach itself is sandy and accessible, with a straightforward beach-style launch. On lighter days — the low-to-mid range of the Meltemi — the water stays relatively flat and forgiving, which makes it a reasonable choice for intermediates who want consistent, manageable conditions. Once the wind pushes past 20 knots, chop builds across the bay and the ride gets more physical; riders who are not comfortable in confused water should wait for the cleaner window earlier in the day. The usable wind arc runs east to west through south (90°–270°), aligned with the Meltemi's northerly character. The wind is seasonal and pattern-driven rather than erratic, which is a good thing, but the season is concentrated — outside June to September, reliable kite conditions here are not something the available evidence supports. Kite infrastructure is thin on the ground. Schools are few; if you want instruction or rental gear, pre-book before you travel rather than hoping to sort it out on arrival. Experienced riders who travel with their own kit will find the spot uncomplicated: no dramatic reef or current hazards in the available data, a sandy bottom implied by the beach character, and a strip of accommodation and food options within reach.
