About Chandipur Beach

Chandipur Beach sits on India's east coast in Balasore district, Odisha, looking directly out into the Bay of Bengal. It's one of those rare spots that genuinely offers two completely different experiences depending on when you show up — and that timing is dictated entirely by the tide. At low tide, the sea pulls back up to 5 kilometres from the shoreline, exposing vast sand flats that stretch toward the horizon. For kite landboarding or kite buggying, this is about as good as it gets: enormous open space, a consistent surface, and nothing in your way. At high tide the water returns, converting the same stretch into a bay suited to kitesurfing. Plan your session around which mode you want — they're not interchangeable. The beach is east-facing, with a shore normal around 90°. The reliable kite window is the NE monsoon, running roughly November through January, when side-shore winds come in at typically 18 to 28 knots. The usable wind arc runs 0° to 180° — north through east to south — covering the monsoon direction well and keeping the angle manageable for kite control. It's a workable, honest side-shore wind for the season. Getting here runs through Balasore, the nearest significant town, which is well-connected by rail along India's east coast mainline. From Balasore, Chandipur village and its beach are a short local ride. The beach is relatively open and accessible once you arrive. Tidal awareness is not optional at Chandipur — it's the organising principle of the whole session. Before you rig, know the tidal state and where it's heading. The transition between exposed flats and returned water happens on a schedule you need to respect. There's no established kite school or rental operation at this spot, so arrive self-sufficient with your own gear and your own competence. Accommodation near the beach includes Lucky Beach Resorts, Torrento Resorts, International Tourism Resort, and Anandamayee Hotel. Hotel Shila and Hotel Muktangan provide additional choices. For food, Arpita Lounge Bar, Namste Chandipur, and Chandipur Dhaba Ext. are your local options. Chandipur is best suited to intermediate and advanced riders who can self-manage in the field. If you want a kite experience that exists almost nowhere else in India — vast tidal flats, side-shore NE monsoon, and genuine solitude — this beach during November to January is worth making the effort to reach.
