The shore normal runs at about 68° ENE, which puts the northeast monsoon at a comfortable cross-shore angle — not dead onshore, not dead side-shore, but that productive middle ground where your kite flies clean and you have room to work the window. Berhampur is the nearest major rail hub, and auto-rickshaws and taxis cover the last stretch to the beach town without much fuss. The launch area is a sandy beach typical of the Odisha coast — broad at low tide, narrowing as the water rises. South of the old harbour, a reef flat provides a slightly more sheltered entry point, which is useful if you want to ease into conditions before committing to the open bay. That same reef flat is worth staying aware of downwind, particularly at low water — know where it sits before you ride. The water runs warm year-round, with the Bay of Bengal serving up short, steep chop when the northeast monsoon is in full swing. That texture suits freestyle and jumping well, and is manageable for intermediates comfortable handling 20-knot conditions. One thing to factor in: fishing boats operate out of the harbour. Keep your launch and landing lines clear of vessel traffic, and give yourself a mental map of where they anchor before you launch. Weekends bring domestic tourists to the beach, so the shoreline gets busier than the wind-hour numbers might suggest. Early mornings tend to be calmer on the beach itself even when the wind is already up. For gear, the Oct–Jan window typically calls for a tighter quiver. A 9–11m kite covers most days comfortably; at the top of the range, a 7m gives you control when it pushes 30 knots. Outside the monsoon window, wind becomes unreliable, and the spot doesn't offer much without it. Facilities on the ground are reasonable for a secondary destination.
