About Amed

Amed sits in the Karangasem regency of northeast Bali — a string of fishing villages where the pace is slower and the atmosphere nothing like the busy south. The beach faces northeast, which means when the seasonal wind kicks in between December and March, it arrives as side-onshore with a slight onshore bias — clean, manageable, and well-suited to morning sessions. The approach is straightforward: Amed is the destination in itself, a narrow coastal strip with accommodation, warungs, and the local fishing fleet pulled up on the black-sand beach. Parking is informal, as it is most places in Bali — pull in near the beach and you're a short walk from the water. The launch is on black sand with a gradual entry. The water is generally calm inside the bay during mornings, with the NE wind tracking roughly side-onshore at 15°–50°. Wind strength typically runs 12–18 knots during the December–March window, and mornings are the more reliable window — by afternoon the breeze tends to ease or shift, so early starts pay off. The snorkelling reef offshore does double duty as a downwind marker. Know where it sits before you commit to a long downwind pass — it is not buried deep. The bay's relatively protected character suits intermediates working on their riding, though reef awareness is non-negotiable here before you session in earnest. For the typical 12–18 knot range, mid-sized kites cover most riders. This spot does not reliably fire into the high twenties, so if you need big-wind days as the priority, factor that into your planning. Facilities are honest rather than resort-level. Bali Kitesurfing is the local school if you need instruction or gear support. For food, Amed Seaview Warung is closest to the beach at around 330 metres, with Aroma de la Mer and Amed Cafe a short walk further. Bahari Beach Bar works well for a post-session beer. Accommodation options nearby include Bali Dream House for a simpler stay, or Anda Amed Resort and ANDA AMED VILLAS SPA & RESTAURANT a couple of kilometres along the coast for something more comfortable. Summer is the dead season — the wind drops to near nothing and the flat water draws divers rather than kiters. If a Bali kite trip falls in those months, this is not your spot. What Amed delivers is contrast: fewer crowds than south Bali, a working fishing village atmosphere, and a clean side-onshore window that is genuinely pleasant to ride when the season is on. It will not suit every profile — if you need a full kite resort infrastructure with reliable strong wind, look elsewhere. If a quieter Bali experience with solid morning sessions across the December–March trade-wind window sounds like the right trade-off, Amed is worth the drive north.
