Belongas Bay sits on the southwest coast of Lombok, not far from Selong Belanak. It's a scenic, remote bay that stays genuinely uncrowded — getting here takes effort, and that effort filters out the crowds. The shore faces southwest, which puts the SE trade winds of May through September side-onshore from the right. Wind typically runs 15–25 knots during those months, and the usable arc stretches from 135° to 315°, covering southeast through northwest. When the trades are running, this spot can be consistently on. Water character splits neatly in two. Inside the bay, conditions run flat to choppy — solid ground for freeriding, carving, and working on your riding without too many variables underfoot. Move toward the reef mouth at the bay entrance and the whole character shifts: waves build, the riding gets more demanding, and the margin for error narrows. That contrast is what makes Belongas interesting. It's not a one-trick spot. Skill level: intermediate to advanced. The remote setting means help is far away if something goes wrong, and the reef at the bay mouth demands real respect. This is not the place to be still working on water starts. Getting here takes road time. Belongas Bay is remote by Lombok standards, and that's exactly why it stays uncrowded. Confirm your route, bring what you need, and sort your logistics before you leave — improvising on arrival is not realistic out here. Facilities close to the water are sparse. The Bay Kitchen Belongas and Belongas Bay Retreat Lombok are both within about 3.4 km and cover food and accommodation — a practical base for multi-session stays. Dive Dude Belongas adds another lodging option around 4 km out. The Belongas Bay Retreat & The Bay Kitchen Pick Up Zone sits at around 5.4 km. For more variety, Bayside Lounge by Amber Lombok is around 13 km; Segara Lombok bar & restaurant and Boni Beach Lombok are each around 15 km out. Many riders pair Belongas with a session at Gerupuk, Lombok's better-established kite bay on the south coast. Gerupuk offers more infrastructure and varied conditions across its zones; Belongas gives you the solitude and the reef-mouth waves. Together they make for a solid Lombok kite itinerary. Target May through September for reliable SE trades. Outside that window, wind becomes less predictable and the remote drive is a harder sell. Come in season, choose your water — flat inside or technical at the reef mouth — and you'll likely have it largely to yourself.
